A catenary curve is the natural shape a freely hanging chain/rope takes under the force of gravity.
Inverting a catenary has proven to have extreme structural stability. The skeleton consists of multiple rows of such curves, each able to hold 5:1 its own weight.
Miniature scale model of the final product.
While working on the scale model I quickly realized the need for temporary support, this was the finalized laser cut prototype.
Brick orientation played a key role in the development of the project. Structurally functionally and ergonomically.
False work acts as temporary support for bricks to lay on top and keep overall consistency.
Bricks are to be placed on each side so the weight is evenly spread until forces are neutralized at the top.
False work to remain until the mortar cures making it a self supporting structure.
Sound diffusion chamber proved to isolate outside noises up to 38db while siting inside. While holding a conversation inside augmented sound from 60db to 78db.
Bricks being set next to falsework.
